A court in Diyabakır has sentenced Kurdish politician Leyla Zana to 1 year and 3 months imprisonment for allegedly spreading PKK propaganda in a speech made at a seminar at London’s SOAS University on 24 May 2008.

On the 13th of July, traders and businessmen of northern towns of Kurdistan went on strike, which were widespread in cities such as Saqez and Bokan. In Mahabad these strikes were particularly extensive.

On Sunday the 19th of July, Mohammad Sadegh Kaboudvand was tried in the first branch of the revolutionary court of Mahabad for allegedly spreading propaganda against the regime through publications and distribution of pamphlets on the issue of Kurdish women. This is despite already serving 11 years imprisonment.
