Kermanshah: Students at Razi University reportedly attacked by Iranian forces

by

Major protests have spread beyond Iran’s capital city of Tehran as Iranians have become increasingly frustrated over election results and the apparent reluctance by the Iranian government to concede to the demands of those that claim election fraud.  Mass demonstrations in the streets of Tehran were met with violence as police and plain-clothed  Basiji paramilitaries reportedly opened fire on crowds.  Tehran University became a focal point of demonstrations and BBC Persian reported that militiamen belonging to the Basiji groups raided the university and attacked student gatherings in the dormitories.

According to several independent sources, protests have spread to other regions and unrest has been reported in and around other universities in Sistan-Baluchestan, Mazandaran, and Kermanshah.  In Kermanshah – where a large Kurdish population resides – Iranian security forces raided Razi University and dormatory and several were reportedly injured and arrested.

Alliance for Kurdish Rights calls on Iranian authorities to start an immediate investigation into the security forces’ and paramilitaries’ violent handling of demonstrators across the country, and urges the Iranian government to put an  end to the violence against protestors and opposition supporters.
