Detention of a Local Council Official in a Kurdistan Village

Iranian Kurdistan – Last night Farough Hossein Panahi, an official from the Local Council of Ghrochay, was detained by security forces. Ghrochay is in proximity of Dehgelan, a town in Kurdistan.

Those familiar with his circumstances state that Panahi has been arrested for supporting and following the cases of two Kurdish political prisoners who have been sentenced to death. The two political prisoners are named Anvar Hossein Panahi and Arsalan Olyayi. Previously, a number of relatives of these two individuals had also been arrested.

Panahi, 34, is married. He has been the chair of the Local Council of Ghrochay for two terms. Ghrochay is home to 1500 households
