Massacre in Lice, Amed: 1 dead, Many Wounded

Yesterday, soldiers opened fire on people who were protesting against the construction of additional buildings to the military guard post in the Hêzan ‘Kayacık village of the Lice district of Amed (Diyarbakır).

1 person died and 8 were hospitalized due to injuries.
People walked to the military guard post with the intention of demonstrating against the construction of new buildings next to the post. Setting on fire 3 tents nearby, people headed for the military guard post.

Medeni Yıldırım, an 18-year-old unarmed protester, was killed by the soldiers’ gunshot. 8 people were wounded and taken to hospitals in Amed.

Names of the wounded are Jiyan Bulut, Nihat Kocakaya, Nebi Aslan, Metin Bulut, Ronida Pervane, Ismail Pehlivan, Ramazan Çakıl and Dinar Demir.

The Kurdish businessman Adnan Yıldırım, Medeni Yıldırım’s uncle, was also killed 19 years ago, Hurriyet Daily revealed. He was kidnapped by state officials wearing police uniforms on 3 June 1994. The dead bodies of Adnan Yıldırım and two other businessmen, Savaş Buldan and Hacı Karay, were found near Melen River in the province of Bolu on the 4th of June. The investigation concerning the killing of the three Kurdish businessmen as well as many other murders by unknown assailants is conducted by the public prosecutor of Ankara.

Armored vehicles and soldiers from Amed provincial gendarmerie regimental command and Lice regimental command alongside special operations forces were dispatched to the region, news agencies reported.
