Body of Murat Izol found by river

The body of the 19-year-old Murat Izol who went missing 12 days ago was found earlier today by locals by the Tigris River in Amed in North Kurdistan (Southeastern Turkey).

According to various sources, witnesses have said that around the time Murat Izol went missing, they observed a fight between a policeman and a young man. Others claim Murat Izol was chased by the police and only escaped them by jumping into the Tigris River.

His body was found near the Ten Eyed Bridge where a family member identified him. Eyewitnesses report that they saw gunshots in his head but no official statement has yet been made.

The body of Murat Izol was moved to the morgue in Amed and friends and family gathered here to grieve.

For unknown reasons the Turkish police used tear gas against the mourners and has allegedly detained one person.

Update April 8th: The funeral of Murat Izol took place yesterday. At the funeral was members of the pro-Kurdish party BDP. The circumstances surrounding his death are still not clear but both BDP, family and friends of Murat Izol demand that the Turkish authorities shed light on his death as they regard his death unsolved.
